    Being vs. becoming

    1–2 minutes

We are seduced away from being by becoming.

Becoming is a process based on the future in which we will always be something better when we get there. We are working through our days for an eventual payoff, such as the present moment, which we are busy neglecting.

    1,000 mini-heartbreaks

    1–2 minutes

“1,000 mini-heartbreaks everyday for a month is better than one epic one that you don’t understand.”

a text I received from a friend going through a tough time

    Participating or reporting?

    1–2 minutes

If you are reporting on the party, then you are not really part of the party.
You are just an amateur journalist with a smartphone.

    Participating in our own erasure

    1–2 minutes

It seems a constant erasure of our past is buried under new scribblings.

    Best intentions to help yourself

    1–2 minutes

The little things you do to help yourself often trip you up.

So I won’t forget something, I put it in my pocket, but then it is “out of sight, out of mind” and I walk around looking for it.

It is only by internalizing our system, so that we no longer remember to remember, that we truly help ourselves.

    Moment Mori

    1–2 minutes

Today I envision myself being killed in a traffic accident during rush hour. My only concerns were that my wife knew that I loved her, and that I had not spent enough time enjoying the rich beauty in nature.

Literally two minutes later I found belly button lint in my actual belly button! It somehow seems profound in a lighthearted way. Is this the first time the navel gazing actually generated a result?

    Skills over Debate

    1–2 minutes

While others engage with criticism and gossip, spend your time learning skills.
Take feedback, but don’t argue, don’t ruminate: just work on yourself.

  • Theme:

    Have patience when learning

    1–2 minutes

When learning something new, have patience with the teacher. And have patience with yourself. Just have patience.
Let it unfold over time, don’t judge prematurely. You don’t have to prove anything.
