You are a better person when you are a whole person, not a good person

    1–2 minutes

By continuing to work towards being a whole person (integrated), you more naturally and effortlessly are a good person.
The attempt to be "good" means you reference and filter through a socially constructed representation, which is a layer of mediation on top of the "you" who is naturally good. The stress of aligning yourself with a model of "good" diminishes your sincere goodness.

    2 years to wisdom

    1–2 minutes

It only takes two years of being hurt and frustrated to come across as suddenly wise and resilient.
Perhaps wisdom is derived from suffering manifested as empathy. Shared pain opens us to listen and respond with vulnerability. Not that others need to listen, but merely offering an ear and commiseration while people are in despair might draw them out of themself for a moment, and from there perhaps they can find a bit more light.

    The Lion’s Den

    1–2 minutes

Going into the lion’s den is entering a space of performance seeded with risk: a situation where you cannot be who you are.
It is a space where victory is survival. Yet the lion’s den can function as a crucible or oracle of insight: this is the world and us within it.

    Clarity as Camouflage

    1–2 minutes

    To clarify we attempt language.
The attempt of intimate transparency transmutes under excessive discourse, shrouding situational reality with obscuring vagaries, shades of intent. Under this web of words we form camouflage and shield. Under the method of communion we not only can hide, but can learn to attack.

    You can’t excuse yourself

    1–2 minutes

You can’t excuse yourself from consideration; from parsing the acts of others into opinions.
We have a responsibility to keep thinking even when we shouldn’t be speaking.

    Don’t-ignore-me Tantrum

    1–2 minutes

Sometimes we push back against things simply to push, to flex and feel real. Our internal wiring (ego) acts out, asserting itself in the world: recognize I am a force to be deferred to and included.
Having a voice is good, sharing unique insights that help is good. Reminding people you exist by throwing a wrench into their life isn’t.

    1,000 mini-heartbreaks

    1–2 minutes

“1,000 mini-heartbreaks everyday for a month is better than one epic one that you don’t understand.”

a text I received from a friend going through a tough time

    Conversational Cadence

    1–2 minutes

There is a cadence to conversation, but to learn the cadence doesn’t have to be equal and you don’t have to pepper people with interrogatory questions: you can speak less and let them reveal their nuanced depths.

    The benefit of irrationality

    1–2 minutes

To be unique we appear irrational against the norms of society. But norms shift to abnormal in another place or among another group.
To encourage unique individuals we must enable the ability to pursue irrational ideas. After all, unique ways of thinking from irrational pursuits may be our salvation.
Yet, knowledge and strange ideas, without wisdom can promote destructive tendencies and harmful outcomes. How do we balance against this?

    Privileging the subjective

    1–2 minutes

Soren Kierkegaard distinguishes between objective truth and subjective truth. We can argue empirical (objective) reality while the felt truth of the (subjective) self must be taken at face value.

To deeply understand faith, Jazz music, or falling in love they must be experienced; they cannot be apprehended only through reading or observing.

This leads to a rich set of challenges for how to share and communicate reality with others.
