Domestication as Conditional Love

Domestication, even from good intentions, is control—using guilt, shame, or coercion to shape behavior. It splits the self, replacing authenticity with a mediated mask.

This masking (splitting) denies unconditional love, as people cannot love themselves when their essence is suppressed (schizophrenia).

True self-love requires mastering one’s identity, which involves shedding attachments, such as tribal conformity or consumer identity. Only then can unconditional love flourish, free from the cycle of offering and withdrawing affection based on conformist behaviors.

Domestication, however well-meaning, undermines autonomy. Instead, prioritize self-discovery over control, fostering love that doesn’t demand conformity.
