The boring work is necessarily the hard work, personally and politically.
Thrilling, distracting, and extroverted actions are obviously more pleasurable than digging into yourself, setting limits, and holding yourself accountable. Remaining responsible for pains taken and inflicted is in no way boring, but the work of integration and forgiveness is. So, we distract ourselves with projection and transference: we put it on someone else, shift blame, fall in love.
Equally, political and ideological affiliation goes beyond the easy identification and social allegiance into tedious research. Pithy rejoinders and intentional obtuseness are much preferred.
Looking at reality and taking responsibility (doing the work) prevents the harms our flight from boredom perpetuates: We damage others because we will not repair ourselves, and our state bureaucratic institution is little swayed by communal, emotional catharsis.
