To be cool once meant being unflappable — letting insults slide, maintaining composure, rising above petty power politics.

Today, that stoic self-possession reads as passivity.

Combative name-calling earns social credit. Coolness has been recast as weakness, and so it disappears — replaced by escalating retaliation, with no cool-headed moderation in sight.
